A Dallas market is celebrating after setting a Guinness World Record for the largest fruit display after gathering nearly 87,000 pounds of avocados.
El Rio Grande Latin Market broke the record after setting up an avocado display that weighed in at a whopping 86,764 pounds.
“The display of 301,000 avocados was created to celebrate the Mexican-American cultural holiday Cinco de Mayo, which takes place 5 May every year,” Guinness wrote on its website.
The market teased the record-breaking news leading up to the announcement and later posted a time-lapse video of workers setting up the display, located at 3035 Buckner Blvd. in Dallas.
According to the market, the display took 7 hours to set up.
“Huge shoutout to our incredible display build team who poured their heart and soul into creating this record-breaking masterpiece,” the company wrote on Facebook, along with a photo of the team that made it happen.
Once the record was set, the market perched its framed certificate from Guinness in the center of the avocado pile in celebration.
Calling it an "avocado wonderland" in a news release, El Rio Grande also held a community celebration from May 3 to 5 that included mariachi bands, DJs, giveaways, a scholarship presentation, school performances, food and even avocado recipes.
“Everything Grande in Texas isn't just about avocados," Gladys Marquez of El Rio Grande said in the release. "It's about bringing our community together. In addition to celebrating the avocado, we'll also be raising awareness about the importance of access to nutritious foods."
